Doodle 4 Google by Google Ireland

Google Ireland has launched an art and design competition for Irish schools children based around the Google logo. The competition — Doodle 4 Google — is open to primary and secondary school students, who will have to create a doodle — the drawings that are designed on, around and through the Google logo on the website’s homepage — based on the theme ‘My Ireland‘.
The winner’s design will be placed on the Google homepage in Ireland, the UK, Canada and the US to celebrate St Patrick’s Day on 17 March 2009. The winner will also win a laptop for themselves and their teacher and Google will also award a technology grant of EUR10,000 to the winning school. Schools interested in taking part must register by 7 November and must submit entries by 12 December 2008. For more information on the competition click here.

This is disgraceful. Shame on google and the designers of this school scheme putting commercial logo on front of school chidlren as young as 5 years of age. Teacher unions have already policies against this rubbish getting in to schools. If google want to give back to schools- let them pay annonymously into a fund for schools- not use schools for cheap advertising. Schools should boycott this nonsense.

in response to Niall McGabhann comments. Anything that can encourage creativity in children has to be a good thing. google may be a commercial logo but it is not hazardous to their health like other brands such as certain junk food companies, it is a valuable research resource for educational study and it is free, so it is not trying to get into their pocket money. kids need an incentive nowadays to get off the computer and spend time doing something more creative or active. promoting art is a positive thing so why doesn’t he just go and protest outside mc donalds who are partly responsible for the obesity problem in this country.

My school has to do it and we have no choice everyone has to do one and its way too boring in my opinion as we are told not to put anything cheesey in it :S so no shamrocks etc so all thats left is boring monuments :@

I didnt get picked 4 the my ireland comp and i wish they would give u a reason.i now wish i didnt do it!i would agree with nikki it wasnt even that fun!
