SEO Speed TestMost of the SEO consultants proudly show their search engine ranking for the phrase like ‘SEO’ in the Goolge search engine. So here is a test. The SEOConsultant.ie web site is registered today with the Irish Domain Registry. The results I am interested in are:

  • How long will it take to get the domain SEOConsultant.ie listed in the Google.ie search engine results pages?
  • How long will it take (if ever) to optimize the page so that it appears on the first page – within the first ten results for the phrase ‘SEO’

Why this SEO Speed Test?
The SEO consultants and SEO specialists will almost always tell you that in general the effects of the search engine optimization should be measured in months as a time unit. It is almost a standard in the SEO proposal to read that the results should be expected in 6 to 9 months. Since 9 months as a bit long to wait (as a nicer sex knows better then men!), the clients impatience is growing and hard to manage.

What I want to test is how long does it take to place a domain in the Google’s index, and how long does it take to obtain the high ranking – the top 10 results is the aim.

It is Friday, February 15th, 2008 today.

Let the SEEO Speed Test begin!

    Hello

A very interesting SEO experiment indeed!

Reckon you’ll do it in 3 months.

Question is: Can you get the site positioned in the hot zone – above the fold?

Let’s have a race, I’m running similar experiment for latest insurance website http://www.insuranceblog.ie.

May the best SEO man win. Wish you luck.

    Hi,

I’m now trying this test too for http://www.weekend-break-cashel.com which my search terms will be ‘weekend breaks cashel’ I have just registered the domain.

What I’d be interested to know is what you did, if anything to promote the site. Having the domain name match the search term is an obvious plus with your Page title using the same phrase again. Blogs also seem to get index faster than a regular site. Had you blogged anywhere in advance about this that may have led to google indexing your site?

    Hi Alan,

I didn’t really start promoting the site yet, to e honest. I just noticed that two weeks passed since I posted anything on the SEO Consultant web site. Terrible!!! :)

I just submitted the site to Google on the day one, and that is all so far.

Just noticed the link on your home page within the article. The link is to teh URL without the ‘WWW’. Is it an intentionally linking to such an URL?

    Hi Ivan,

The link in my post is to http://www.weekend-break-cashel.com and links to http://www.. Is that what you are refering to. Could you clarify. For my test I setup the same site on 3 different domains with slight variations of the domaion names but each site is standalone. I though that might help too.

I submitted it to google and a number of online directories. I included a site map within googles webmaster tools but as of it it hasnt been indexed.

Well just an update. My post here has been indexed to for the search phrase ‘weekend breaks cashel’ and appears higher in google that my own site. This may be due to you site having a better standing on google but its just one instance of a phrase with no related content.

Without using your Blog as a test bed ‘low cost accommodation in cashel’ may now get indexed. If that is the case there is certainly a case for using a blog for SEO purposes.

The SEO Consultant.ie made it to the first page of the Google.ie search engine results in a bit more than 2 months. The option ‘Pages from Ireland’ needs to be selected, so one more milestone left…

Here is the SEOConsultant.ie Blog Post with the update:

I think it’s a great achievement – well done! We are now trying to move schomecare.ie up the ranks – after 3 weeks no results… Let’s keep waiting.

@ Simona: Hi Simona! Welcome to the SEO Consultant Blog! Regarding the clients site… well, don’t wait – do something! :)

The ALT tags are where I would start. They simply tell too much, and for that reason not enough about the link behind them.

BTW, How do you find the TYPO3 from the SEO perspective?

5 Years later…. this blog dropped in the SERPs drastically. Today it’s not on the first page for most of the relevant search phrases…

I am guessing it is the time to do something about it! :)
